A TEENAGER has been left devastated after thieves stole her unwrapped presents following her 18th birthday party.
Lauren Hyland, of St Chads Way in Chesterfield, woke the day after her party, held at the Riverside Club, in Hollis Lane, to find burglars had broken in to her parents car and taken all her gifts from family and friends.
Expensive Pandora jewellery and cards containing money and vouchers were among the items stolen from the boot of the car – as well as Lauren’s camera worth £400 with all the photographs from her milestone birthday.
She said: “I was really upset about it, especially my camera being taken because I had worked hard to buy that and it had all the pictures on from the night.
“I’m just gutted.”
Dad David Hyland added: “It’s not so much the presents as what you haven’t had you don’t miss but it’s the camera being taken that’s most upsetting.
“It was used all evening to take photos of everyone at the venue.
“Now she no longer has a photographic record of her 18th birthday party.”
Thieves raided the car which was parked on the drive, in the early hours on Thursday, December 29.
The boot contained five or six bags one of presents and the rest of left over food from the party.
The camera, which was in a case, was under the bags.
They then got in to the front of the car and took a sat-nav and another camera.
PC Simon Holden of Derbyshire police, said: “Fortunately this is a rare thing to happen.
“It is really sad for the family and spoiled the girl’s birthday completely.
“Any information would be greatly appreciated.”
Witnesses should call police on the new non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
