POLICE in Barlborough are reminding residents to be wary of doorstep sellers after a suspicious saleswoman was seen in the area.
Officers were called by a concerned resident at around 2pm on Wednesday, August 31 about a woman going door-to-door selling compost and hanging baskets.
The seller repeatedly banged on the doors of elderly residents in the Park View area and one elderly woman handed over cash for 12 bags of soil.
Officers from the Barlborough Safer Neighbourhood Team are reminding residents to ask for identification from visitors and if in doubt call the police.
PC Jason Graham said: “Doorstep sellers can be very persuasive and often don’t have genuine motives for visiting you.
“Don’t let them into your home and don’t to be forced into buying items you don’t want.”
The seller is described as white, around 5ft tall with black frizzy hair. She was driving a red van.
If you see a suspicious doorstep seller in your neighbourhood call Derbyshire police on 0345 123 3333.
