Inspirational bench joinery student Ashley King has been named as one of the final ten competitors in the Screwfix Trade Apprentices of the Year competition.

Ashley, a student at Chesterfield College, was selected to attend the final of the contest at Google headquarters in London, after submitting an online entry and making a video presentation explaining why he was so passionate about his trade and how he saw his career developing.

Judges were looking for the best trade apprentices who exceed expectations. Ashley’s infectious and inspirational passion for his trade makes a big impression on tutors and fellow students at the college, and this was obviously also noted by the judges.

Ashley said: “There is no greater feeling than seeing the end result of a project I’ve completed and put my heart and soul into.”

What started out as a hobby is quickly turning into a highly skilled trade that promises to lead to a very successful career for Ashley, 19.

Ashley’s tutor Chris Hall added: “Not only is Ashley’s standard of work brilliant, his perfectionist approach is also motivating his peers to develop their skills to the same standard. He has become the benchmark in the class and everyone strives to be as good as Ashley.”
