Yvonne Henchliffe's Stay Cute and Dilute crusade aims to remember her son and cut alcohol-fuelled violence in the town centre.

On Saturday, November 11, several premises will serve half-priced soft drinks and special mocktails as part of the campaign, now in its second year.

Former soldier and father Mr Henchliffe, 26, of Maynard Road, Chesterfield, died in hospital last year after he was attacked in the town centre during the early hours of the morning.

Yvonne, also of Maynard Road, said: "I'm trying to make a difference with this campaign.

"It aims to remind people of the damaging effects of alcohol-related violence and staying safe on a night out.

"It's also to remember Chris."

This year's campaign was launched during a special event at the Proact Stadium on Friday.

Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins, who was in attendance, said: "The Stay Cute and Dilute campaign is about promoting sensible drinking, which will hopefully lead to fewer incidents like the one which led to Chris's tragic death. I don't want any other families in my constituency going through the pain and grief that the Henchliffe family have suffered.

"The night-time economy in Chesterfield is vital to our town but we need to ensure it is a safe place for everyone. Reducing soft drink prices and encouraging people to drink a little bit less alcohol on a night out could help reduce violent incidents, relieve pressure on our police and health services and hopefully make our pubs and clubs a safe and fun environment for all."

So far, premises backing the campaign are the Badger in Chesterfield; the Britannia Inn in New Tupton; the Derby Tup in Chesterfield; the Devonshire Arms in Hasland; the Donkey Derby in Chesterfield; the Hollingwood Hotel; the Moo Bar in Chesterfield; the Olde House in Chesterfield and the Proact Stadium in Chesterfield.
