Stolen bike returned to owner thanks to appeal

A bike which was found in a garden in Chesterfield has been returned to its owner thanks to an appeal on Facebook.

Derbyshire Police put out a picture of the bike on Friday, August 4, which had been found by a resident on Walton Walk the previous week, to try and trace the owner.

On Monday, August 7 the owner of the bike contacted police to claim the bike as his, and it was returned on Wednesday, August 9.

It had been stolen from a garage on Cropston Close, Hasland, sometime overnight between Wednesday, July 12 and Thursday, July 13.

PCSO Darryl Hegarty of the Holmebrook and Rother Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “I’m really pleased that this bike was found and the appeal shared on Facebook as it is now back with its rightful owner.

“Although enquiries are still ongoing into the burglary, I would like to thank everyone who read and shared our appeal for their help. If you have any information which could help in relation to the incident, please get in touch.”
