Mrs Enid Hodson welcomed members to the May meeting of Woodthorpe WI. The financial statement was read by the treasurer Mrs Mary Denman.
Mrs Ailwyn Fern gave a resume of the resolution meeting which had been held at Darley Dale. This was to vote on whether the WI should move a resolution in favour of trying to halt the continuing decline in our high streets and its damaging effect on our community. There was a majority and the resolution was carried. She will take this decision to the AGM in Cardiff in June where she will be the group delegate.
The new constitution document had been received and accepted by the committee. Mrs Joan Turner said that she would like to view the document and add her comments.
Mrs Lois Newton said that there is to be a group visit to Chatsworth in December and names are being taken before the closing date of September when deposits will be required.
The speaker for the evening was Mrs Susan Mallinson who talked about ‘Footprints on the Sands of Time’. This was a reference to the people in showbusiness that she had met in her own career and who she felt had had an impact on her life in some way. She accompanied the talk with photographs of her career with well known stars. Mrs Mary Davison gave a vote of thanks.
The lucky ticket holder was Mrs June Rowbottom.
The next meeting will be on June 17.
