Netherthorpe School in Staveley is celebrating record GCSE results.

Seventy-four per cent of students achieved five or more higher grade GCSEs (A*-C), including English and maths - the best results in the school’s long history.

There were scenes of joy and excitement as students opened their results’ envelopes, with eight students even managing a full house of ten A*/A grades.

Olivia Webster was delighted with her results and hopes after sixth form to become a vet.

Josh Bowler was ‘really surprised’ and Annette Chanzu, who had been crying with nerves, was ‘ecstatic’.

Delighted headteacher Alan Senior said: “I am absolutely delighted with the school’s record GCSE results.

“Our students have worked extremely hard and have been rightly rewarded for their efforts.

“Their teachers have similarly left no stone unturned in their support of the children and I thank them for dedication and commitment. Our students can now face the future with confidence and I wish them every success as they embark on further studies or enter the world of work.”
