Five-year-old Rory Carson has been praised for collecting for the Poppy Appeal for the third year in a row!

His efforts have helped the Staveley branch of the Royal British Legion achieve an amount of just over £13,700.

Branch chairman Martin Thacker said: “t is wonderful to know that someone as young as five has the compassion to think of others and put his loose change in a charity collection tin and encourage others to do the same!”

Presentation certificates were awarded at a night of celebration in the Legionnaires’ Club, Staveley, which was hosted by the branch to acknowledge supporters of the Poppy Appeal.

Mr Thacker paid tribute to Poppy Appeal organiser Peter Attwood who co-ordinated the branch’s fundraising efforts. He thanked those who had worked for the Poppy Appeal including local businesses, schools and a large number of individuals.

Mr Thacker said: “We are grateful to all who contributed to an amazing sum of over £13,700. It’s a remarkable achievement given the current economic climate. The people of Staveley are a

generous lot!”
