Five student representatives from Staveley’s Netherthorpe School have been presented with a Giving Nation Social Action Award and £500 cash prize.

The students, who won the award for outstanding overall school effort in raising funds and awareness for their chosen charities, received the award from Lord Wallace of Saltaire on behalf of the Cabinet Office in the historic Churchill rooms at HM Treasury.

Their activities included making and selling bath bombs at a local market, organising an Indian Summer entertainment evening, running a Christmas disco, cooking events and sponsored walks.

In total they raised approximately £10,000 for charities such as Make a Wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Punjab Schools and connected with members of their local community who supported their efforts throughout the year.
