The bowling season continues with good fortune for Staveley King George V Bowling club, based in the park on Cemetery Lane. On Wednesday night the “A” team faced Oxcroft on the Staveley green and won all four doubles games. The “B” team played at Arkwright, a difficult green, but managed to win three of the four doubles games and win by 71 to 47.
The over 60s team played Dronfield Woodhouse on Thursday and won all three game.
Friday night’s game was a match in the Bolsover Hospital Cup Competition, five pairs played Hillstown at the Calow green. Staveley had to give 12 points start but won four of the five games and scored 103 to their 93 to proceed through to the next round.
Saturday’s games saw Staveley’s “A” team at Highfield, of the 10 games Staveley won sxi and scored 193 to their 154, the best winner being Roy Windle winning 21 to 8. The “B” team were at home against Cliffe Park, they won 197 to 122.
Next Wednesday sees the start of Staveley’s schools programme, children from local schools come to the green, to learn how to play the game and enjoy themselves. This is a free offer to schools.
The club is still offering any groups or individuals the chance to try the game, providing all the equipment needed and basic instruction.
An open day on May 12 will see the club hosting free sessions all day on the green. Members will be available to give instruction, bowls will be available for those that have bowled before and there will be fun games for all ages, refreshments will be available all day.
