Spireites supporter fined after sending malicious tweet to club director

Director and company secretary of Chesterfield Football Club, Ashley Carson, reported the tweet to Derbyshire Constabulary.

Mr Carson said: “I would like to say thank you to the Derbyshire police for taking this seriously and dealing with it in an efficient way.

“I hope it serves as a warning to anyone using social media that they will be made responsible for their postings and you should consider the consequences before hitting the send key.”

A 24-year-old man admitted sending a malicious communication to Mr Carson and is said to have shown remorse for his actions.

The man was given a fixed penalty notice of £90.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: “Officers were alerted to an offensive tweet that had been sent to Mr Carson.

“Our officers spoke to a 24 year-old man and issued him with a fixed penalty notice.”
