Generous revellers who attended a New Year’s Eve dinner at the Proact Stadium raised £610 for Ashgate Hospicecare.

Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner, who is a patron of Ashgate Hospicecare, said he was delighted to be part of the fundraising bid.

He said: “As our official charity partner, we organise regular fundraising initiatives for Ashgate Hospicecare and we were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque from our New Year’s Eve event.”

Alison Ward-Foster, Ashgate Hospicecare’s fundraising manager, said: “The support of our local business community is vital in helping us to continue our valuable work.

“It is a priority to support terminally ill adults and their families in the local area.

“What a great way to bring in the New Year.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped raise money at the dinner.

“In 2015 we cared for over 2,200 patients and their families.

“The donation from Chesterfield Football Club will help us to continue to make a real difference to those who need us most.”

Ashgate Hospicecare is an independent registered charity that provides care to patients across north Derbyshire at the hospice, in the community and at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

All services are provided free of charge to patients and their families which is mainly funded through donations, legacies and income raised through their 16 shops.

Patients with any life-limiting illness can access Ashgate Hospicecare’s specialist services through a referral, normally through their GP.

The hospice has a 21-bed inpatient unit, 16-place day hospice and provides a range of therapy and support services on site.

The hospice also provides a wide range of community-based care and support services to enable people to stay in their own homes for as long as possible.

Patients are not charged for the services they provide, however it costs £8.5m a year to provide these valuable services, of which over £6 million needs to be raised purely through voluntary contributions and fundraising.
