Taxal businessman Allan Behrens returned to the University of Hertfordshire after graduating nearly 30 years ago recently to collect a special award.

Allan, who studied electrical and electronic engineering in 1982, has had a very successful career in the IT industry, establishing several businesses, including Cadtek Systems Limited, an engineering software company based in Furness Vale.

As part of its 60-year anniversary celebrations, the University of Hertfordshire welcomed back previous students of its predecessor institutions to formally recognise their contributions towards the creation of the university.

The graduates collected an ‘Associate of the University of Hertfordshire’ award (AUH), entitling them to carry the initials AUH after their names.

Allan, 53, said: “The course was fantastic and pretty unique in its day. I was really surprised on leaving when I won an award for my services to the Polytechnic.”
