NEWLY recruited soldiers from the region have sworn an Oath of Allegiance to the Crown during a ceremony at Chesterfield’s Town Hall.

The 16 army personnel, including thirteen juniors set for college, received certificates to mark the end of their recruitment and they are now due to begin full training.

Sgt Gordon Hardy, of the 2nd Mercian regiment, said: “It was a proud day for everyone.”

The soldiers including many from Chesterfield will serve with the Mercian, Royal Artillery and 9th/12th Royal Lancer regiments.
