PLANS have been submitted to demolish a former social club and turn the site in to six homes.

The Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation (CISWO) has drawn up proposals to transform the former Hady Miners Welfare Club site.

The once bustling club has stood derelict for over five years and residents led a campaign to see the facility brought back in to use.

CISWO has submitted plans to Chesterfield Borough Council to knock down the club and build two houses and four flats. The proposals also include a convenience store.

Donald Brookes, CISWO regional manager, said: “The sooner something happens with that site the better. At the moment it’ not being used for anything.”

Margaret Arnold, who led a campaign for the site, added: “I’m a bit disappointed with the plans but glad they are going to put a shop on there as there needs to be something for the community.”
