THE Met Office has issued a weather warning for the East Midlands as the country braces itself for snow.

Forecasters have released a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for snow from noon to midnight today (Tuesday).

A Met Office spokesman said: “Rain is likely to turn to snow on high ground as colder air moves south across northern England today.

“Some 2-5cm of snow is likely in places, mainly above around 250m.”

However, the spokesman said “uncertainty” surrounds the forecast.

He added: “Snow is likely to accumulate on grass verges but road surfaces could stay largely clear due to the heat in the ground following warm weather last month.”
