AN amazing grandmother who spent more than six decades volunteering for a local charity has received a big thank you.

Kind-hearted Anneke Godfrey, 92, gave up her time for the Chesterfield branch of the NSPCC for a remarkable 62 years.

She bowed out at the end of 2011 and fellow volunteers held a special celebration last Wednesday to mark her charitable efforts.

Anneke, of Brookside Glen, Chesterfield, said: “I’d describe my 62 years with the NSPCC as incredibly happy.

“I’ve been lucky enough to work with lots of nice people and help a cause which is very important to me.”

Over the years, Anneke – who came to England from Holland in the mid 1940s – has raised pots of cash for the children’s charity through fundraising efforts including sponsored walks. In her spare time, Anneke likes walking and spending time with friends.
