Shay’s memorial match

Have your say

AN ANNUAL football match to remember a young man who tragically died in a pond accident is to be held for the tenth year running.

Shay Ryan died in an accident at Smithy Pond, Wingerworth, ten years ago, and his dad, Paul Ryan, alongside other family and friends, has held the charity match each year to help remember him and raise money for worthy causes.

This year, Shay day is on Sunday, May 1, at the Barley Mow in Wingerworth at 1pm, following a charity football match at Allendale Road at 10.30am.

All money raised on the day will be split between Help for Heroes and The Hereditary Breast Cancer Helpline.
