Police are appealing for the owner of a rucksack that was found in Chesterfield to come forward.

A rucksack which was found in fields in Chesterfield has been returned to its owner.

Last week, police issued an appeal to find the owner of the bag and other items including a coat, map, walking guides and a notebook after they were found in fields off Spital Lane in September.

Following the appeal, the owner called police on Saturday to confirm that the items belonged to him.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Constabulary said: “We had a fantastic response to our appeal including via local news outlets and on social media.

“The information was shared more than 100 times on the force’s Facebook page.

“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read and share the story for their help in reuniting the bag and equipment with its owner.”
