Civic chiefs paid their annual visit to the Rotary Club of Chesterfield.

Civic chiefs paid their annual visit to the Rotary Club of Chesterfield.

Cllr Donald Parsons, Mayor of Chesterfield, and Huw Bowen, chief executive of Chesterfield Borough Council, were welcomed by club president Jim Haggarty.

The mayor was presented with a cheque for £100 for the Mayor’s Appeal. During his tenure as mayor, Cllr Parsons is raising money for Nenna Kind Cancer Support Centre, Staveley Armed Forces & Veterans Association, Chesterfield Armed Forces Assocaition and the Shoebox Appeal for Afghanistan.

Mr Bowen updated members on the challenges facing the borough council during the current period of serious financial constraint and highlighted the successes where Chesterfield town centre was bucking the trend.
