TWO TEENAGERS are taking to the water to raise money for the volunteer rescuers who raced to their aid in the aftermath of a climbing accident in the Peak District.

Jimmy Hyland and Jamie Fisher had to call on the invaluable services of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) after they fell around ten feet while climbing at the Roaches in August. Jimmy was later flown by air ambulance to hospital with injuries to his face and wrist, while Jamie suffered a sprained ankle.

In a show of gratitude for the help they received, Jimmy and Jamie will be among a team of six taking part in the annual Boxing Day Raft Race between Matlock and Cromford to raise money for Buxton MRT.

“We owe them more than a box of chocolates,” the two friends explained.

“Why a raft race in December? It would be boring to do something ‘traditional’.”

Joining them on the water will be Jimmy’s dad Rob, friends Buster Crabb and Fletcher Smedley and Buxton MRT member Josh Hall.

They have already raised over £1,000. To sponsor them, visit www.justgiving.com/wet-hyland.
