A special service of thanksgiving has been held to celebrate the completion of works to improve and update a north Derbyshire church.

The programme of work at St Paul’s Church, Hasland, has included the replacement of interior and exterior lighting, disabled access, new toilets, restoration of stonework and installation of a new sound system.

Major donations have come from Derbyshire Environmental Trust, Viridor Credits via the Landfill Preservation Trust, Derbyshire Churches and Chapels Preservation Trust and several private donors.

The thanksgiving service was devised by members of the church Mission and Worship group. The Rector of Hasland, Fr Malcolm Ainscough, welcomed the Bishop of Derby, the Rt Rev Dr Alistair Redfern. Lessons were read by churchwardens Muriel Haslam and Stuart Bailey, and prayers were led by Terry Tustain and Jill Evans.

The young people presented a light- hearted sketch written by Fr Malcol, in which they described the various works that had been carried out. Those taking part were Lauren and Alyssa Ward, Rhian Ainscough, Sally Ann Mather, Sarah Musk, Alexia Arnold, Adam Edwards, Caitlin and Isobel Pooke, Bethany and Libby Gillatt and Helena Bond.

The retiring collection went to St. Paul’s chosen charity for the year, Kids Aid Tanzania.
