Rally tribute to tragic teen driver

A RALLY will celebrate the life of teen star driver Dominic Yates, who died in a road crash.

The mechanic (19) died when his Citroen AX collided with an Audi on the A619 Baslow Road at Chandler Hill, near Holymoorside, Chesterfield last December.

A lasting legacy to talented Dominic is in the form of a memorial shaped like a roll cage at Blyton Park motorsport centre near Gainsborough - where he used to practise rally cross and where the event is this Sunday July 31.

Newcomers will also be able to hire a car that Dominic’s family have bought with £1,500 of donations to encourage juniors into the sport he excelled at.

Dad Michael Yates, of Walton Road, said it was hoped companies would sponsor different parts of the car as a ‘fitting tribute’. A hog roast kicks off the rally on Saturday night.

On Sunday there will be a memorial service and racing starts at 10am. For more details call Mr Yates on 07501467625.

Cheques to Dominic’s memorial fund should be made payable to Sheffield and Hallamshire Motor Club Ltd, Abbeydale Sports Club, Abbeydale Road South, Sheffield, S17 3LJ.
