Football fans are invited to meet a Sheffield Wednesday ‘maverick’ in the city.

Beighton Welfare, on High Street, is hosting a question-and-answer evening with Terry Curran, raising funds for Beighton Magpies Football Club, on Friday, September 18.

Terry – who released his autoobiography, Regrets of a Football Maverick, in 2012 – made more than 150 appearances for the Owls from 1979 to 1982, inspiring the club to promotion from Division Three, before a switch to rivals Sheffield United.

Terry, now aged 60, came through the ranks at Doncaster, and also played for Nottingham Forest and Everton among a number of clubs, as well as Chesterfield towards the end of his career.
