Pupils bowled over by new sport

Glossop pupils have been trying their hands at bowls, in a bid to combat the decline in PE in schools.

The project involves nine to 11-year-olds from Gamesley, Dinting, St Margaret’s and Charlesworth Primary Schools going to weekley sessions at Gamesley Bowling Club, on Melandra Castle Road.

It is hoped the scheme will help prevent children dropping out of competitive sports at secondary school level.

County Councillor Dave Wilcox said: “This is a great example of inter-generational and inter-community work which makes people feel happier and safer as well as healthier.”
