OVER 80 residents with concerns about the proposed Morrisons development coming to Bolsover packed a protest meeting to form the Save Sherwood Green campaign group.

The campaigners hope to preserve the green land in the town centre which has been included in the company’s plan to convert Bolsover District Council’s Sherwood Lodge council offices into a supermarket and petrol station.

Residents packed The North Star club, on Welbeck Road, Bolsover, on Tuesday evening, May 8, to discuss their concerns including the loss of green land, increased traffic and the impact on businesses.

Selvanayagam Elanchelian, of Bolsover petrol station, on High Street, has also submitted a petition with around 1,000 names opposed to the development over worries it could squeeze out existing businesses in the town.

For the store’s plans see this week’s Derbyshire Times and campaigners’ views will be outlined in full in the subsequent edition of the newspaper.
