Premier Inn submits plans for Matlock

Whitbread has submitted an application to Derbyshire Dales District Council to develop vacant land adjacent to the Arc Leisure Centre into a new Premier Inn hotel and restaurant.

The firm is proposing to invest £4million in the new 60–bedroom hotel, creating 25 new jobs.

The submission follows a two–week public consultation on the plans in May, where residents were invited to review and comment on the developing proposals.

Nick Johnson, acquisition manager for Whitbread Hotels, who is leading the redevelopment of the site, said: “Our design team worked closely with Planning Officers at Derbyshire Dales District Council to design a building that responded to the architecture of the Arc Leisure Centre and helped to create an attractive new gateway into Matlock.

“After a lot of hard work, we have achieved that and I am proud of the building we are proposing for the site.

“Many people at the exhibition commented on the benefits of a Premier Inn hotel to Matlock.

“As well as creating 25 new year–round jobs the proposed hotel will attract thousands of new visitors to Matlock, supporting local businesses as our guests go out to eat drink and be entertained.

“We have a huge amount to offer the town and I hope local members back our proposals.”

Premier Inn is now looking forward to the application progressing to the next stage of the planning process.

With the planning application now submitted, Derbyshire Dale District Council will now carry out its own consultation on Premier Inn’s planning application.
