Police target nuisance and illegal parking in Alfreton

Police in Alfreton are reminding drivers to park considerately and legally following concerns from local residents.

Officers from the Alfreton Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team will be targeting parking issues in a number of local areas by carrying out patrols, advising motorists and handing out leaflets.

PC Mark Scott of the Alfreton Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We have had a lot of complaints from local residents about inconsiderate or illegal parking, especially where they haven’t been able to access their homes or local shops, have had difficulties passing vehicles which have been parked on pavements or have been concerned about safety when driving their own vehicles about the area.

“We’re reminding people to use common sense and park considerately. Drivers have to be aware of their surroundings and make sure when they park they’re not causing an obstruction and are abiding by the rules and restrictions of the road, including any road markings.”

Issues have been raised about vehicles parking too close to junctions, blocking driveways and entrances, being ‘double parked’ and also parked on pavements.

Locations where concerns have been raised include;

Near the schools on and around, Grange Street, Firs Avenue, Flowery Leys Lane, and Shakespeare Drive;

Meadow Lane Industrial Estate and the surrounding roads;

Mansfield Road, near to local businesses;

Tavistock Square and the bus stop;

Nottingham Road.

The team will also be taking appropriate enforcement action and issuing tickets where necessary.
