In order to allow the safe running of the bike ride, the event was marshalled by members of the Middleton Community Bike Group, alongside officers from the village’s Safer Neighbourhood team.

PC Dan Mitchell from the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “The charity bike ride was an absolutely great event with a fantastic turnout from the local community.

“It was a great example of community spirit and one that I was proud to be a part of by helping the cyclists to cross busy routes safely.

“Everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves whilst raising money for local charities; it would be great to see more of this happening.”

Local man Tony Houghton, who was in charge of organising the ride, said: “We have had a lot of support from local people and were grateful for the help the police gave us in marshalling the route. It’s been a great occasion to bring the whole community together and to raise money for local projects”.
