Police keen to trace man who may have restrained a suspect carrying a weapon in Chesterfield

Officers investigating an incident in Chesterfield town centre in which a man was allegedly carrying a weapon would like to trace another man who they believe could help with their enquiries.

Police in Chesterfield are appealing for witnesses to an incident where a man was allegedly causing a disturbance and carrying a weapon in the town centre.

The incident happened at around 8.45pm on Saturday, August 27 in the Stephenson Place and Holywell Street area.

Reports were received of a man who was shouting at people, damaging shop shutters and vehicles, and carrying a weapon.

Officers attended and a 43-year-old man from Dunston was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. He was questioned and is currently on bail pending further enquiries.

During the incident officers believe a man may have tried to restrain the suspect near to The Rutland Arms.

Police Constable, Adam Case, said: “I would like to trace the man who restrained the suspect as he may have information which could help as part of the investigation.
