Police investigate alleged Chesterfield churchyard rape

Police are trying to trace the driver of a taxi who may have vital information relating to an alleged rape in Chesterfield.

On Sunday, February 21 at approximately 4am a woman got into a taxi near to The Association bar where the taxi driver took her to her home in Chesterfield, near to Tapton Park.

Prior to this the woman was allegedly raped by a man in the church yard of The Church of St Mary and All Saints on St Marys Gate in the town centre.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is currently on police bail pending further investigations.

The taxi is described as a black cab style and the driver was white. The woman is in her 30s and was very dishevelled, wet from the rain and upset.

The driver of the taxi or anyone that may have further information relating to this incident is urged to contact DC Lisa Holland on 101 quoting crime number 7815/16.
