Police caution for patient who threatened to harm himself at Chesterfield doctor’s surgery

A man who threatened to harm himself at a doctor’s surgery on Monday has been given a police caution for possessing an offensive weapon.

The man, who had a Stanley knife, went into Wheatbridge surgery in Wheatbridge Road, Chesterfield, at about 1.15pm.

He locked himself in a room at the surgery and police spent more than three hours negotiating with him.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said the incident ended at about 4.30pm and a 46-year-old man was arrested.

The spokesman said on Wednesday morning: “He was being held on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon but has been cautioned for it and released without charge.”

The spokesman previously said the man underwent a health and safety assessment while in police custody.
