Police appeal in search for missing man in the Peak District

A region-wide search is underway for a missing Stockport man last seen in Derbyshire.

James Philp, 48, from Town Street, Marple Bridge, was last seen at his parents’ home in Ilam, near Ashbourne, at around 10pm on Sunday 21 August.

It is believed he is using a red '16 plate Volkswagen Polo.

Officers from Staffordshire Police, Derbyshire Constabulary and Greater Manchester Police are carrying out numerous inquiries to find James, and have so far focused on areas of the peak District around Glossop, Braybyns Park near Marple Bridge, Oakeover and Ilam.

Staffordshire Police said James is described as white, slim and 6ft 2ins tall and 'will look young for his age with unshaven face and has short brown hair.

He is believed to be wearing beige trousers and a navy top.

DS Kelly Wareing, of Staffordshire Police's Force Safeguarding and Investigations, said: "As time passes we are becoming more and more concerned for James' welfare.

"We want to appeal to walkers and residents in the rural areas of High Peak and White Peak to keep an eye out for a red Volkswagen Polo and report any information to us.

“If you have connections in these areas please share this appeal to help us find James.

"If you have any information at all please contact police on 101, quoting Staffordshire Police incident number 100 of August 22."
