Police appeal after suspected sexual assault on woman in Chesterfield

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an attempted sexual assault in Chesterfield.

A 44-year-old woman was walking along Lockoford Lane in the town at about 5.40am on Sunday when a man came running up behind her then forced her to the ground.

He tried to indecently assault her but she screamed and managed to fight him off before he ran away in the direction of Sheffield Road.

The offender was white, aged 40–50 years old with short hair and of slender build.

He wore a leather jacket with a light coloured shirt underneath.

Police said that at the time of the alleged incident the victim saw a couple of people who may have been going to work and a man who was walking down Sheffield Road carrying a pizza box.

He was smartly dressed and it is believed he was going home after a night out.

Officers are appealing for these witnesses to come forward.
