POLICE have launched an investigation after a Staveley man died following a road crash in Derbyshire.

A Renault Clio overturned on the B6012, which runs through Chatsworth Estate, at 7.30pm last Thursday, police said.

Ashleigh Chapman, 21, a passenger in the car, which was travelling from Calton Lees towards Edensor, suffered serious injuries.

Mr Chapman, of Spencer Avenue, Woodthorpe, Mastin Moor, was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where he died.

A police spokesman said: “Derbyshire Constabulary has begun an investigation into the circumstances of the collision and would like to trace any witnesses who may assist in the investigation.”

Mourners have left floral tributes and personal messages at the crash scene and officers have put up a sign asking witnesses to call 01773 572929.

One tribute reads: “To my beautiful darling son. Respect. Love Dad and Sue.” Another states: “You’ll always stay in my heart as a best friend.”

An inquest into Mr Chapman’s death was opened and adjourned by North Derbyshire deputy coroner Nigel Anderson on Wednesday.

• A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and bailed, police said.
