A new footpath sign near Bowden Hall bears a commemorative plaque to John Bailey, founder, and until his death in September, President of Chapel-en-le Frith Rambling Club.

John, who was formerly secretary of Buxton Rambling Club, was a keen long distance walker and on his retirement in 1993 set about trying to establish a walking club in his home town of Chapel.

John’s love of walking is embodied in the philosophy of the club he founded and its members are grateful to him for his initiative and foresight in setting up a popular and friendly local club.
