A SPRAWL of derelict land could be brought back to life as a lively “district centre” under new plans revealed exclusively in the Derbyshire Times today.
Regeneration proposals for Walton Works – the old Robinson healthcare factory (right) – and its redundant Chesterfield site, off Chatsworth Road, include:
•£35m of investment to hopefully be complete by autumn 2013
•Creating around 300 new jobs for local people at a key foodstore - with more posts at independent shops
•Cutting cross-town congestion by giving residents facilities in their own area
•Saving at risk listed buildings from further disrepair in sympathetic conversion for homes and other uses
•Opening up a stretch of river and hidden memorial garden for the community
