North East Derbyshire District Council’s planning committee will see members – who get no extra allowance – reduced from 33 to 18, to bring it in line with other similar-sized authorities.

“We are doing everything we can to make the council as efficient and streamlined as possible and this is the latest idea that we will be implementing. We took and listened to advice and decided that this was the best option and way forward for the Committee.

“Planning committees are apolitical and need to focus on the needs of the district as a whole, but we are still keen for ward members to play their part and represent their communities and they will be allowed to speak at the committee for three minutes on a specific application.”
