Plans have been submitted for a new 660-metre square salt storage barn to be built in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
The proposal, put forward by Derbyshire County Council, is for the new building to be constructed at the current salt storage depot on Sheffield Road.
The barn would need to accommodate 3000 tonnes of salt storage with easy access for large vehicles and machinery. Six-metre-high lighting columns would also be installed as part of the development.
The council said: “Salt currently stored on this site is exposed to all weather elements which results in the salt becoming unusable, as rain causes grains to clump together making it difficult to spread evenly and effectively.”
The open air winter maintenance service yard has been in operation for approximately 35 years.
The precautionary winter maintenance gritting routes are designed to start and finish at the Chapel depot.
The application is available to view at www.derbyshire.gov.uk.
