PICTURES: Tributes left at New Whittington roadside after fatal accident

Floral tributes have been left at a New Whittington roadside after a serious car accident left a 30-year-old man dead.

The accident happened at around 5pm on Sunday (October 22) on Whittington Road when a VW Bora and a Ford C-Max collided head on.

The 30-year-old Bora driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 72-year-old Focus driver was taken to Northern General Hospital by Air Ambulance where he remains in a critical condition.

Police, fire service personnel and paramedics all attended the collision and the road was closed for several hours.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police is asked to call on 101, quoting reference 17000457292.
