The so-called Beast of Boslover Mr Skinner, 84, opened the fun day, mixed with those who attended and signed copies of his autobiography – as his party faces the biggest crisis in its recent history.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn – whom former miner Mr Skinner backs – has refused to stand aside despite losing a no-confidence motion among MPs and suffering the resignation of the majority of his senior team.

He now faces a leadership contest with Owen Smith.

The Pontypridd MP became the sole challenger to Mr Corbyn following a decision by Angela Eagle to pull out of the race after it became clear she would fall short of her opponent when it came to nominations from MPs and MEPs.
