We were delighted when the pavements on Summer Lane, Wirksworth, were given a cosmetic treatment earlier this year. For the first time for a long time, the pavements looked really good – they were not so good on Saturday. Shiny as glass and covered in a sheet of ice they were the last place to be walking. The road was the only safe place. Surely the council must have had the surface tested for its suitability in winter weather!
I only hope the hospitals are ready for the increase in broken wrists if this weather continues for long.
