POLICE are increasing weekend patrols around trouble hotspots to crack down on underage drinking.

The blitz in Clay Cross will also tackle anti-social behaviour, violent crime and alcohol related offences.

Patrols - code named Operation Olton - will see a stronger officer presence, paticularly around pub closing times.

PC Adam Bryan, of the Clay Cross SNT .said: “The operation has been set up to tackle problems in the area including criminal damage, violence and anti-social behaviour.

“Many of these are alcohol related and are more likely to take place at the weekend so we plan to have a high visibility presence in the area to deter troublemakers and reassure those people having a quiet evening out.”

The operation is being run alongside the local Pubwatch group of landlords who communicate with the police and each other to help prevent alcohol related crime.

Patrols will continue until November, when the operation will be reviewed.
