A COUPLE tied the knot in a poignant Armistice Day-themed wedding.
Darrell and Rachel Ball – whose outfits were adorned with poppies – got hitched at Chesterfield Register Office last Friday.
As well as being a day of celebration, it was a chance to remember Darrell’s father Leslie Ball who served in the Army during the Second World War but died when he was 86 five years ago.
Fifty-one-year-old Darrell, a fitter, from Winsick, said: “It was a very happy yet moving day.
“I got on very well with my dad.
“He was a lovely person and always brought out the best in folk.
“I’m sure he would have been looking down on us and feeling extremely proud,” he added.
Scores of family and friends turned out for the wedding.
Darrell said: “It was a fantastic day.
“Everyone turned out and it went absolutely brilliantly.
“We’d like to thank everyone who came,” he added.
Darrell and 39-year-old Rachel, a carer, enjoyed a honeymoon in the Lake District.
