Derbyshire youngsters are preparing to head back to the classroom for a busy year of learning and fun.

During 2013, we’re looking forward to visiting more of the county’s schools and showcasing them for our popular Primary Focus page.

As the year draws to a close, our photographer Rebecca Havercroft has visited Scarcliffe Primary School in Bolsover and taken this group shot of pupils and staff.

The Langwith Road school was hailed as ‘outstanding’ by education watchdogs in its latest report.

In a glowing letter to pupils, impressed inspectors said: “You work very hard, make excellent progress and achieve extremely well. Well done!”

The inspectors added: “Within the exceptionally positive and caring environment created by the headteacher and her staff, the vast majority of pupils develop a ‘can do attitude’ to their learning.”

Nearly 100 pupils attend the school and they get lots of opportunities to take part in activities both inside and outside the classroom.

Editor James Mitchinson said: “We got loads of positive comments about Primary Focus during 2012 and here at the Derbyshire Times we can’t wait to showcase more of the county’s brilliant schools.”
