ONE YEAR ON: Fair goers rescued from Proact ride

It's been a year since a computer fault left fairground goers stuck on a ride at Chesterfield FC's Proact stadium.

The Speed XXL ride got stuck in the middle of its cycle, leaving the thrill seekers aboard high above the ground and unable to get off.

Two fire crews were dispatched to the scene where they worked with the ride operators to activate a safety mechanism which allowed them reach the people aboard.

No-one was injured in the incident which is believed to have been caused by a computer fault.

Speaking at the time, fairground visitor and Derbyshire Times Facebook follower Rachel Lupton said: “We watched the ride as it stuck in the air. It was a well-controlled situation.

“Everybody jokes about being stuck on one of these rides and in reality there is a chance it may happen but nobody was injured which is the main thing.”
