A member of Team GB for the 2012 Olympics inspired the next generation of sports people at a Chesterfield school.

Ben Pipes visited students at Holme Hall Primary to pass on the message that sport is not about giving up.

Headteacher Paul Hüsken said: “He was fantastic, and I think the children really listened to his ethos.

“He met with all the children and told them they should never give up and keep aiming high.”

Various activities took place on Wednesday, October 7 with the children and Ben - who was working with the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership.

Mr Hüsken said: “Dreams give people something to focus on and achieve and when Ben spoke about his journey of dreaming about the Olympics to being there it was clear how focused he was.

“We have never had an Olympian in school before and it was a great experience and very exciting for the children.”

During his time at the school Ben personally signed 130 photos and got the youngsters from years 1 up 6 involved with either making medals or talking about the values of a good sportsman.

Ben tweeted the school after his visit and said: “A truly outstanding visit to @HolmePri today! Inspiring students and supportive staff! Thank you for such a great day!”
