Centenarian George Lowe was the centre of attention when fellow Rotarians threw a party to celebrate their oldest member’s 100th birthday.

The celebration at Lumb Farm, Marehay, included a three-course meal and film of Ripley through the ages which prompted George to reflect on the changes in the town during his life.

George, who was born in Ripley and is a member of the town’s Rotary club, was presented with a photo album by Owen Briggs, president of the club. The album contained photos of George’s 100th birthday party, which he celebrated with family and friends at Wood Street Chapel, Ripley, to which photos of the Rotary party were added later.

Special guests who attended the Rotary celebration were District 1220 Governor Gordon McGlone, District Governor Elect David Ashley and Assistant District Governor Roger Summers.
