A SCHOOLGIRL aged seven has scooped an unusual prize - Young Turkey Keeper of the Year!
Stacey Gilliver won the surprise award at the National Poultry Show last weekend for her dedication in looking after pet birds Lucy, Holly and Rosie.
Proud mum Sam said: “Her face was an absolute picture, she went bright red and there were tears in my eyes but she was just amazed.”
Stacey, a pupil at St Peter and St Paul’s Independent School in Chesterfield, proves bird of a feather stick together as her family keep chickens to breed and exhibit.
Sam, of Chesterfield Road, Temple Normanton, added: “As soon as we got our first turkey Stacey just fell in love with her.”
Turkey Club UK presented the award at the show in Stoneleigh. A spokesman said: “The president was very impressed with the winner’s obvious commitment to her birds.”
