Residents of South Normanton will be able to keep fit and healthy thanks to a Sport England grant of £123,625 to Frederick Gent Community Sport and Leisure Partnership which will see a new public fitness studio in South Normanton.

The fitness studio will be based at Frederick Gent School on Mansfield Road and work is anticipated to be completed by mid September.

The scheme which will cost nearly £190,000 and will see an under used music court converted into a dedicated gym facility. The new gym will boast Technogym fitness equipment and will be available for community use, although the exact opening hours have yet to be determined.

Frederick Gent Community Sport and Leisure Partnership, of which Bolsover District Council are a partner, were instrumental in the concept of the scheme, and employed the expertise of a local sports consultancy service KAM Ltd, to assist in submitting the bid to the Sport England Rural Community Fund.

Bolsover District Council Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion Cllr Ann Syrett said: “We have been working hard with the partnership to try and increase and improve leisure provision in the area and this new facility will complement the existing leisure facilities at the school.

“The music court was hardly ever used and this grant has provided us with a great opportunity to give the local community a new, purpose built leisure facility.”
